A six week series of workshops designed for complete beginners or those who need a refresher in the basics of ukulele playing.

You will learn the essentials of how to play including basic chords, strumming techniques, finger picking and a new song to play every week. The classes are designed to give you the confidence to play just for yourself, for friends and family or to join a ukulele group.

Di Moore is a musician, performer and teacher who is passionate about sharing her love of the ukulele.

Mondays 6.15-7.15pm at Bluebird House (Cnr Carr and Swanston Streets, South Geelong). Commencing 30th July until 3rd September for Term Three 2018.

Subject to minimum numbers.

Workshop outcomes:

  • How to hold your ukulele

  • Basic chords

  • Basic strumming and finger picking techniques

  • Songs to play

  • You will be encouraged to sing as well

If you don’t already own a ukulele, there will be ukuleles available to lend but only for use while at the workshop. Please advise when enrolling if you require a loan ukulele and if you are left handed.

It is recommended that you have your own ukulele to be able to continue to practice at home. If required, quality ukuleles can be purchased directly through Di at the first class. Please advise when enrolling if you would be interested in purchasing one and Di will get in touch with you.

Di has been teaching in Geelong for the last two years and now, through her "School of Uke" offers private weekly lessons out of the Music Studio at Bluebird House as well as her home studio in Moriac.

After moving to Geelong in 2015, the Ukulele started to play a major role in her own musical life, so Di decided that she wanted to share her love of this incredible instrument with everyone who wanted to learn. Di is training with the Canadian Ukulele Virtuoso, James Hill, through his Teacher Certification Program and is now a qualified Level 2 Teacher and currently studying Level 3.

Di is also an experienced performer. One of her favourite memories is playing and singing My Island Home with the group “Ukestralia” at the Hawaii Ukulele Festival in July 2016. She most recently performed at the Blue Mountains Ukulele Festival with a group playing big band arrangements on the ukulele and also performs solo gigs.

Di has recently launched the “Heartstrings Ukulele Project” in Geelong to enhance the lives of people in our community through the ukulele. Di works with one recipient each term to bring the gift of music to those that may be suffering from illness or who just need a lift in spirits and would normally not be able to access a ukulele and private lessons.
