"Bush animals" with Caroline Hawkins | ADULTS | Half-day workshop | 1-4pm Saturday 23rd February 2019

60.00

Create a colourful, sculptural animal through the simplicity of wrapping wool around hay. This technique requires no tools and few materials and great results can be achieved with just a sense of fun and imagination.

Caroline Hawkins is a local artist whose practice encompasses creating sculptural fibre art, basketweaving, researching, learning and developing global cultural weaving practices and techniques.

This one-day workshop will be held 1-4pm Saturday 23rd February at Bluebird House (cnr Carr and Swanston Sts, South Geelong).

Subject to minimum numbers.

In this workshop you will be guided in:

  • creating a base form with hay appropriate to your chosen animal

  • dividing the straw into the main features

  • techniques in wrapping with wool

  • finishing the details of your animal

The method of making a ‘bush toy’ is an indigenous art form and was taught to Caroline by Gunditjmara fibre artist Bronwyn Razem, who has given her permission to teach and share this art form.

PLEASE NOTE: The hay can be dusty and this workshop may not be suitable for those with respiratory conditions.
