"Beyond Beginners Ukulele" with Di Moore | ADULTS | Mondays 7.30-8.30pm | Six week series commencing on 22nd July 2019

A six week series of workshops designed to take your skills to the next level.

You will learn additional chords to those taught in the beginner’s class, new strumming techniques including chunking, essential finger picking patterns and new, more challenging songs to learn every week. We will start to work on improvisation and playing riffs.

Di Moore is a musician, performer and teacher who is passionate about sharing her love of the ukulele.

Mondays 7.30-8.30pm at Bluebird House (Cnr Carr and Swanston Streets, South Geelong). Commencing 22nd July until 26th August for Term Three 2019.

Subject to minimum numbers.

Workshop outcomes:

  • Go beyond the basic chords of C major

  • Play riffs and improvise

  • Play with more advanced strumming techniques

  • Be able to fingerpick using essential patterns

  • Play with others in different parts

This workshop is for players who have attended and mastered the basic skills taught in the Complete Beginners workshop or already have the following knowledge and skills:

  • Can play the following chords – C Dm Em F G and Am

  • Be able to read basic tablature

  • Can strum basic patterns using down and up strums

  • Can finger pick basic patterns

Please note that the participants in this workshop are at different playing levels, some are quite experienced and others have just completed the Complete Beginners course. While this can be daunting for the less experienced players, there are always easier and more difficult parts to play to match your skill level or the opportunity to embrace the challenge and take your playing to the next level.

It is expected at this level that you have your own ukulele to bring to the workshop and for practice at home. If required, quality ukuleles can be purchased through Oxygen Music in Moorabool Street. Pop in and see Riley and mention you are doing this workshop.

Di has been teaching ukulele in Geelong for the last three years and started her own business "School of Uke" at the beginning of 2018. She offers private weekly lessons on Monday and Friday out of the Music Studio at Bluebird House.

After moving to Geelong in 2015, the Ukulele started to play a major role in her own musical life, so Di decided that she wanted to share her love of this incredible instrument with everyone who wanted to learn. Di trained with the Canadian Ukulele Virtuoso, James Hill, for three years through his Teacher Certification Program and is a qualified Level 3 Teacher.

Di is also an experienced performer. One of her favourite memories is playing and singing My Island Home with the group “Ukestralia” at the Hawaii Ukulele Festival in July 2016.  She loves to encourage her students to get up and perform at the mid year and end of year concerts.

Di volunteers in the Children’s Ward at Geelong hospital playing the uke and singing for the patients and also leaves a couple of ukuleles in the ward for any kids who might want to have a play during their stay at the hospital.
